Aspherical Lens Design and Imaging
We design freeform lenses refracting an arbitrarily given incident field into a given fixed direction. In the near field case, we study the existence of lenses refracting a given bright object into a predefined image. We also analyze the existence of systems of mirrors that solve the near field and the far field problems for reflection.

Given a three-dimensional surface G, not necessarily rotationally symmetric, and away from a point source, we design a surface F such that the lens sandwiched between the two surfaces refracts radiation into a given direction or into a given point. The surface F satisfies a system of first-order partial differential equations that can be solved in terms of G and the refractive indices of the me...
متن کاملAspherical Lens Design Using Genetic Algorithm for Reducing Aberrations in Multifocal Artificial Intraocular Lens
A complex intraocular lens (IOL) design involving numerous uncertain variables is proposed. We integrated a genetic algorithm (GA) with the commercial optical design software of (CODE V) to design a multifocal IOL for the human eye. We mainly used an aspherical lens in the initial state to the crystalline type; therefore, we used the internal human eye model in the software. The proposed optimi...
متن کاملImproved illumination system of laparoscopes using an aspherical lens array.
The current fiber-based illumination systems of laparoscopes are unable to uniformly illuminate a large enough area in abdomen due to the limited numerical aperture (NA) of the fiber bundle. Most energy is concentrated in a small region at the center of the illumination area. This limitation becomes problematic in laparoscopes which require capturing a wide field of view. In this paper, we prop...
متن کاملNircam Pupil Imaging Lens Mechanism and Optical Design
The Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam) instrument for NASA’s James Webb Space telescope (JWST) is one of four science instruments to be installed into the integrated science instrument module (ISIM) on JWST for the purpose of conducting scientific observations over a five year mission lifetime. NIRCam is required to operate at 37 Kelvin to produce high resolution images in two-wave bands ranging fro...
